About the Artist:

A. Spencer (Augustus Spencer) was born in Yorkshire, England in 1860. In his youth Spencer worked at a mill owned by a local aristocrat. Hi employer became increasingly impressed by spencer’s untrained talent when he came across some of his work done in hobby.

He offered to pay for Spencer’s even classes at the local art college. Spencer later was awarded a scholarship in 1880 to attend The Royal Art School in South Kensington.

He went on to become the Art Master of that school and later the headmaster.

Spencer specialized in romantic and colorful views of the Yorkshire and Susex countryside. He is well known for capturing picturesque cottages and river and lakes.

Augustus Spencer Died in his hometown of Yorkshire in 1924.
